OF EVENTS EVENTS Sunday September 28, 2008 ~ 4:00pm, The History Center Photography Contest Reception. Come celebrate with the photographers. Wine and cheese reception honoring winners of the 2008 Photo Contest. Be sure to visit the History center during the month of September to vote for your favorite photos. Sunday October 19, 2008 ~ 5:00pm, Irvington Public Library Program Room Lecture. Guest speaker, Irvington resident Jan Ramirez, Chief Curator & Director of Collections for the National September 11 Memorial * Museum. Lecture and visual presentation of the planned structure. Sunday November 2, 2008 ~ 3:00-6:00pm, Irvington Middle/High School Cafeteria Old-Fashioned Pie Baking Contest. Open to all village residents, young and old. Visitors and supporters can sample the pies. Rules will be sent out mid-September and will also be posted on the Irvington Historical Society website. This event is a fundraiser for the Irvington Historical Society. Friday November 21, 2008 Annual Meeting. Save the date - more information will follow in October. CHILDREN'S WORKSHOPS Saturday October 18, 2008 ~ 1:00pm, The History Center Sign Language Workshop. Learn Signs, do projects, have fun! Saturday November 8, 2008 ~ 1:30pm OR 3:30pm, The History Center Meet Ben Franklin! Visit with Ben, learn about his experiments, and his role in American history. Several fun projects to do. A great photo opportunity! EXHIBITS AT THE HISTORY CENTER Current Exhibit: "Those Who Served" - Online Photo Gallery The Irvington History Center, 131 Main Street, Irvington, NY Pictures, testimonies, uniforms, artifacts from the War of Independence to the present. ONLINE EXHIBITS Irvington's National Register Sites - Photo-essay of all Irvington sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places. 2007 Photo Contest - Winning entries. Exhibit: Winter/Spring 2008 - Choring Around the House. Exhibit: Winter / Spring 2007 - Irvington Pharmacies: A Century of Pharmaceuticals and Paraphernalia. The Irvington History Center at the McVickar House, 131 Main Street, is open to the public on Thursdays and Saturdays from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. |
